PP 2010
We have applied for a permit to excavate this year between Monday July 12th and Saturday August 21st. People should plan to arrive on Sunday 11th of July and to leave on Sunday 22nd of July, unless told otherwise. This year we will be working in Trenches II and III, where some exciting prehistoric material began to emerge at the end of our last season. A little higher up, we have some substantial Classical building in Trench III and a Byzantine ecclesiastical structure in Trench II.
Reports
In the features section to the right and also on our reports page, you can find out details about our work in previous seasons and that of our colleagues.
Funding
We have been lucky again this year to receive financial support from the Institute for Aegean Prehistory. Please see our sponsors page for details of bodies who have helped in the past and ways for you to get involved for the future of our project.
Istron Olympics
Work hard and play hard / all work and no play... whichever note you choose to take, we always have a fun and healthy recreation aspect to the project outside of our (long!) working hours. This includes quality beach time, exploring neighbouring archaeological sites, playing table tennis / ping pong, pool, karaoke, and the now famous Istron Olympics. On the weekend of Week 3, a multi-event tournament is held between all the trenches / post-ex team and local teams. We have some exciting new events lined up for 2010!
Marathon Man
Co-Director Barry Molloy will be celebrating the 2,500 anniversary of the original marathon race, marking the Athenian defeat of Persia, by retracing these famous steps. The race is on 31st October 2010, and as his participation is for the good cause that is Priniatikos Pyrgos, we ask you to give generously by clicking here. Donations can be tax-deductible if required (email Barry for further details).
Field School
Once again we have had immense interest in our field school for 2010. Students will be participating from University College Dublin, University of California at Santa Barbara, Trinity College Dublin and McMasters Univeristy. See our field school page for further details.
Outreach
We warmly welcome visitors to the site and have had the pleasure of hosting the Irish Ambassador to Greece, amongst other distinguished guests. We do ask people to notify us in advance so that we can make the necessary arrangements. This is mandatory for groups of more than four people.
