What is our support network?

Many different bodies make our project possible, and we are grateful to each and everyone for their ongoing support.

The Greek Ministry of Culture provides our key support by providing the necessary legal permission to excavate and offer further support through the 24th Ephorate of Prehistoric and Classical Antiquities at Aghios Nikolaos. These are the local archaeological body that help with the day-to-day issues of running an archaeological project and make our work possible.

The body through which we apply for permission to excavate is the Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies at Athens. In Greece, foreign archaeologists are represented by their relevant school, and there are currently 17 in operation in Athens, some have been there for over 100 years.

The large economic costs of running a project need to be met through sponsorship and donations. Our primary support body is the Institute for Aegean Prehistory. Along with generous financial support, they have also provided logistical and practical support through the INSTAP Centre for East Crete. The Loeb Classical Library and American Philosophical Society have in the past offered their generous support also. In 2011 The Mediterranean Archaeological Trust provided support for the publication of important EM I deposits from the site.

Educational institutional support comes primarily from University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, University of Pennsylvania Museum and the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Much appreciated support also comes from private individuals, and we are grateful to Janet McGregor and George Muirhead for their support and ongoing interest in our work at Priniatikos Pyrgos.

As financial times grow ever more difficult, we are in need of new sources of revenue to help continue our work and ensure that costs for students are kept low enough to ensure inclusivity. As a registered charity, any donation to the project through the Irish Institute of Hellenic Studies is fully tax-deductable.

We thank all of those who have supported the project thus far and welcome anyone who may wish to get involved further in providing the means for us to continue our work.
