One of my projects at PP is the development of new ways to represent and engage with spatial data using digital technology. Using a virtual
reality environment, I am developing arcseer as a
technology that allows the user to move around an archaeological
landscape in a real time digital environment. With this program, a
visitor can walk around the environs of an archaeological site and
more exciting still, visit the excavation trenches and virtually
explore them. The viewer can bring up photos of specific features at
the site, and pull up information relating to their purpose and
chronology. Archaeological phases can be turned on and off by the
viewer, allowing a virtual excavation of a site, phase by
phase!
A pilot version of the program will be available
soon, but here is a taster in the meantime!
