Arriving at Priniatikos Pyrgos
Istron is the name of the town where the project is based, and it is about 90 minutes by bus from Herakleion. The bus will probably be going through Istron and on to either
Sitia or Ierapetra. It travels along the north coast, through all the tourist resorts, and stops en route in the city of Ayios Nikolaos for 10 minutes or so. Normally you don’t need to get off the bus, as the same one then continues east. Istron is about 15-20 minutes after Ayios Nikolaos, just after the turn for Kalo Khorio. As you enter the town, you will see small hotels such as Villa Angela, Sun and Sea, the Kavousanos restaurant and Smile Café. You should get off 2 minutes later at the bus stop in the centre outside the
Elpida hotel, opposite a small shop and restaurant. (If you find yourself in a town called Pachia Ammos – you’ve gone too far! Get off and wait for the next bus back to Istron.)
A project staff member will collect you from Commotions Bar, just up the road from the Elpida, and bring you to your accommodation in
Stamatakis rooms. On both the Saturday and the
Sunday, a pick-up will happen at 12.30
and 18.00. Please try to fit in with these times and make everyone’s life a bit easier! When you have made your travel arrangements, please send Jo Day a mail with your arrival date. If you encounter delays etc en route, do keep us updated via text message if possible, so we don’t worry about you being lost in transit somewhere.
